A Greeneville Institution: The Bean Barn

Of all the places I have eaten at none says East Tennessee more than a little place in Greeneville known as the Bean Barn.
The restaurant is located off East Church Street near Greeneville High School in an old general store. To say the building has "character" would be an understatement. It is not surprising since the Bean Barn has been around for over half a century. The current owners Jerry and Donna Hartsell have been turning out the food that made this place famous for 33 years.
The signature dish is the Beans All The Way,  which is a combination of soup beans, beef stew and chopped onions. Let me say these are some of the best soup beans I have ever had, but they are even better with the beef stew in them. I look forward to these any chance I can get.
While the beans are worth a trip to the Barn there is another item on the menu I always get and that is the Hobart.
It is a cheeseburger with a slice of hickory smoked ham. Let's just say it is good, I mean really good! The Bean Barn also has good french fries and awesome corn bread. Oh, I almost forgot the Coconut Pie should not be passed up.
So,  if you have never been to Greeneville then coming to the Bean Barn is more than worth the trip. The Bean Barn is located at 515 East Church Street in Greeneville, TN.
