AT Blazes: North Carolina / Tennessee 2014


First I did the Georgia edition of the 2014 AT Blazes, now it is North Carolina/Tennessee getting the treatment. However, unlike the Georgia AT Blaze blog, where I did it by location, for this one I am going back to the "By the Hike" format. Anyway, here is the AT Blazes: North Carolina/Tennessee 2014.

April 5, 2014: Dennis Cove To Laurel Fork Falls

Double blaze at Dennis Cove.

Blaze on the AT Throne.

Blaze on the way to falls.

Blaze near the falls.

In the Laurel Gorge headed south.

Ghost face blaze.
Blaze on the back of the Pond Mountain Wilderness.

June 14, 2014: GSMNP, Clingmans Dome & Mount Buckley

Lot of mossy blazes near Clingmans Dome.

Yes that is a double blaze.

The crack in this tree got wider.

Another blaze headed south near Clingmans Dome.

Blaze near Mt. Buckley.

On rock at junction for Bypass Trail at Mt. Buckley.

June 22, 2014: Cloudland Hotel On Roan Mountain

Blaze helps point the way south toward Hughes Gap.

Cut blaze headed north.

Double blaze where one of the trails from the hotel area.

With sign pointing north toward Carvers Gap.

July 16, 2014: Roan Highlands

Blaze in the pine forest north of Carvers Gap.

Rock with blaze near summit of Round Bald.

Another rock blaze at Round Bald.

Northbound blaze at Engine Gap.

Another northbound blaze headed toward Jane Bald.

Two blazes on Jane Bald.

Blaze near base of Jane Bald.

Double white blaze near junction to Grassy Ridge Trail.

Southbound blaze headed up Round Bald.

July 24, 2014: Watauga Lake & Dam

Blaze near Shook Branch Recreation Area.

Grasshopper at  double blaze at old road bed.

Blaze on pine tree.

Blaze in need of paint.

Beige blaze.

Northbound blaze near Watauga Lake Shelter.

On the way to the dam.

This blaze has been nailed.

November 29, 2014: Max Patch

With one of the iconic Bird-House Blaze.

One of the snowy weathered blazes on Max Patch.

This one has seen plenty of thru-hikers.

That is not a double blaze.
