Today my Hike Georgia group went to Panther Creek Falls near Hollywood, GA. I know what you are saying "it is not Thursday!" Well, if you haven't seen the weather for tomorrow while it is mostly sunny it is also turning cold and windy (this Saturday night is supposed to be -20 wind chill on Blood Mountain). So, the weather was better today so we went out. Let me say the weather was in the words of the Ninth Doctor "FANTASTIC! While it was a long trail, about four miles one-way, it was also challenging. There were some over hanging cliffs plus perilous dropoffs. Luckily there was cable railing at most of these spots. There was three falls, the first a 10 footer then the second was a 15 foot sliding waterfall. Finally we reached the main falls. It tries to fool you as there is a really nice spot at the Top of Falls, but the main event is a little farther down. While I will write about this hike in more detail later there were some treacherous spots, even with the cable railing. But it was worth it for the view of Panther Creek Falls. This is a 75-foot stair stepping beauty, with great water flow. After admiring the falls we ate lunch and it was back up. Anybody who has hiked to a waterfall know it is always up on the way back. It was a really nice hike and I would do again, anytime. Oh, after doing eight miles I did two more with Deb at Rock Creek Park.
