It is nearing the end of the week and that means I went hiking with my Thursday Hike Georgia group. There was six of us today with regulars Kelly and Lori, then three new people Bill, Beth and John. Our destination...my favorite spot in Georgia Blood Mountain. Today we went from the Byron Reese Memorial parking area, just below Neel Gap. We hiked up to Flatrock Gap and took the AT up the steep southbound trail. After lunch on the one of the out crops we hiked down the other side to Bird Gap. From there we took the Freeman Trail around the south side of the mountain back to Flatrock Gap. Then it was back down the Byron Reese Trail to the lot and we completed the six-mile lollipop loop. We got done just before the rain moved in (which can be seen in the last picture taken at Mountain Crossing).
