Wow! 1,000 Blogs

Big Wow! There have been milestone blogs (like 100,000 Views), but this may be the biggest...my 1,000th blog!
When I started Tales from the Wood Booger in 2013 I never really thought about making it to 1,000 blogs. This milestone feels like a hockey player in their 1,000th game. It just seems like 2016 since I hit 500 blogs. It took 34 months to reach the first 500 and it took 36 to reach this milestone. I guess I am slowing with old age.
Over the six-plus years that it has taken me to get here means that I have averaged 143 per year. The year that has the most blogs is 2015. The average per month comes out to an average of 12.
Speaking of months, the one that has seen the most in October of 2014 with a total of 30 blogs. The month with the most blogs is February at 105, but the best average is March 15.6. So, in closing I am going to put up some of my favorite pictures and places from the 1,000 Blogs, there are plenty of others, but these come to mind. Anyway, enjoy...

Back At The Cabin To Fix The Water & Other Stuff...Take Two

It was a quick turnaround as Dad and I headed back to the Cabin to try and get the Spring reconnected Monday.
Where the PVC Compression Coupler didn't work we went back to the simple way, cutting a section of pipe and gluing it together. While doing it we thought we might have messed up with water in the glue, but as of now, it is holding.

I had a little time while it dried, so since the one Maple tree I tapped was doing so well I decided to tap a second, so we will see how it goes. Then I started another project...the building of a fire pit. I am using rocks dug up from the Spring job. I got the rocks sorted and the first row is done, but now I need concrete. Don't worry there will be a more in-depth blog on this when I finish.

As for hiking, the reason Pete was unavailable for a Down the Rabbit Hole was in stayed here to watch the Cabin. In doing so he got into the firewater. So, Pete was in no condition to hike, much less put up a blog. Oh, as for Tuesday the rains came and it hasn't stopped.

New Sap Opportunities In An Unusually Season

It wasn't all water and hiking at the Cabin but I did have a little time to tap some trees. The reason I say trees is that I just didn't tap a Sugar Maple, but I also did a Sycamore.
This is the first time that I have tapped trees at the Cabin. I picked the largest of the four maples out front. As soon as I drilled it, the pulp was wet and the sap started running out. Now when I tapped the Sycamore it was kind of dry. This is my second attempt at tapping them we will see how it goes.

The thing that this Sugar Maple got me thinking was how good this tree did as soon as I tapped it, much different than when I drilled the big trees in St. Clair. Frankly, the tap hole was dry and when I left Thursday morning (after tapping on Tuesday) versus the almost gallon I had overnight at the Cabin. So, when I got back to St. Clair... nothing! I read in my book How to Make Maple Syrup that you can cauterize the hole by accident when making it. So, when I got back to St. Clair I decided to re-drill, but this time I didn't reverse it which seem to work at the Cabin. To be continued...

At The Cabin For Water Problems & Hiking ...Take One

It is the last of January (& February) and by Pete's blogs (here & here), you know that we are at the Cabin. While hiking was a part of the four days here the main project was working on the water.

As I have said we are connecting the Spring to the Cabin. Well, we discovered a leak, which turned was a cracked connector between the pipe to the Cabin and the Spring pump box. The first fix we tried just didn't work. Then yesterday we put on another connector, but not after a muddy, dig in the cold mist. Well, when we looked this morning ...it leaked. Well, heading back for another go this week. Oh, I did some tree tapping...stay tuned

New Down The Rabbit Hole @ Wood Booger Ridge...

I am going to make this fast, because the Lummox doesn't want to get wet. We are getting a little rain mixed with ice. I made the Lummox bring me out after he watched his silly tennis match. Now he is crying it is cold and wet...baby! Anyway, that is all from the trail on Wood Booger Ridge... bitches!
