A beautiful Sunday, what is the best way to spend it? For this Wood Booger and Pete, there is no better way than a trip to the Bald Mountains and a six-pack of vistas. Also known as Viking Mountain I drove up to Jones Meadow and hiked up Camp Creek Bald and to the bluffs near the summit for the first vista. After hiking down the AT (Appalachian Trail) back to Jones Meadow.
Then I drove to the other side of the meadow near the old Valhalla Inn site and hike the blue blaze to the AT. From there I traveled to Bearwallow Gap and took the Jerry Miller Trail down to Huckleberry Gap. Then I went down a side trail to vista two...Baxter Cliffs.
After enjoying the view I headed back up the steep trail out to the Jerry Miller Trail. Then it was to the AT turning North and headed to maybe the best vista, number three...Big Firescald Knob.
Next, it was back South on the AT for about a mile to the junction of the side trail to Blackstack Cliffs (number four if you are counting). Number five was down past the trail back to Jones Meadow, White Rock Cliffs.
The last was on the way back to the car and the is the vista at the old Valhalla Inn site. That completed the six-pack of vistas, covering 6.5 miles...a nice day on the Camp.
