2016 Fall Outdoor Series

Well, the calendar just turned to December and that means two things. First, it is the meteorological start of winter and the second is it signals the end of the Fall Outdoor Series and the start of WinterOutdoors 2016-17. This edition of the Fall Outdoor Series was one of ups and downs and not all of that was on the trail. September was one of the better ones with close to 34 miles on the trail, which included my first trip to the Wonders of Grandfather Mountain. October, which had the most miles at 50.25, was dominated by hikes in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. From Sugarlands to Charlies Bunion there were some excellent hikes in the Smokies, but one was extra special I didn't know it but it was the hike to the Chimney Tops. That brings us to November which was dominated by wildfires, including the Chimney Tops 2 Fire which devastated the mountain, Park, and Gatlinburg. The picture above is a tribute to the beauty of the Chimney Tops. Between the smoke from the wildfires and a sinus infection I only got out three times (for 12.5 miles), but two of these (Chimney Rock and Camp Creek Bald) more than made up the difference. Well, with that let us get to the stats for the 2016 Fall Hiking Series.
