It is the first of March which means it is the unofficial
start of spring. That means soon the snow that we have been seeing lately will
give way to warmer temperatures which starts trees budding and the return of
wildflowers on the trail. This blog will document some of my favorite wildflowers
that I have come across over the last two years (mostly 2014). I took pictures
of the flowers from a diverse number of place like the
Appalachian Trail (AT), the
Roan Rhododendron Gardens and
Rock Creek Park in Dawsonville, GA. The flowers
range from the rare, like
Gray’s Lilly, to ones you can find just about
anywhere, like
Black-Eyed Susan. I have done this blog in two different ways.
The first flowers featured are my favorite varieties. The aforementioned Gray’s
Lily starts out the entries and then the different members of the
Heath family, which includes
rhododendrons,
azaleas and
Mountain Laurel. The second part is just done in alphabetical order. Also, I have listed
there Latin names, the date the photo was taken and the general area where I
spotted the wildflowers. Anyway, starting this spring I will be doing a Best
Wildflowers of the Month blog so I don’t get such a backlog of photos, but here
is a look back some of my past favorites.
