You know the old saying April showers bring May flowers.
Well, it isn’t only May flowers, but the April showers also brings April
flowers.
Since it is the beginning of
May that means it is time to look back at the flowers and wildflowers of
April.
I will say this has been a good month. Wildflowers really
started to bust out in April and I found flowers from Tennessee to Georgia. While the
flowers one normally finds in April were on display I did get a few surprises.
Normally the Mountain Laurel at
Sawnee Mountain doesn’t start to bloom until
early May, this year they were about a week early. Then I found some near Buford Dam. However, the biggest surprise
was finding Flaming Azaleas at a number of places. It was mid-June when I found
them in full bloom at
Andrews Bald. But, I found some, while at a much lower elevation
than Andrews Bald, in the fourth week of April, I was pleasantly surprised.
