I awoke today to clear skies, which made for a beautiful sunrise. After enjoying the beginning of a new day we hike on the beach again and Deb also collected seashells. While we hiked three miles, Dad and Terry joined us for a mile of the outing. On the last third of the hike I met a guy who had wrote in the sand "No Oil Rigs!" I stopped and talked to him about the "nutter" Governor of North Carolina who thinks the 50 mile buffer from beaches like Emerald Isle is too far (no drilling is best). He wants to bring the rigs in even closer...30 miles offshore. So, if you get a chance check out this guy's Facebook page. After we got done with the hike we went to the old towne of Beaufort. We first ate at the The Dock House Restaurant and looked at the yachts parked close by. Then Deb and I went to the North Carolina Maritime Museum. While there were a number of ocean related exhibits the main focus was on one of the most famous Blackbeard. His real name is believed to be Edward Teach and in 1718 he ran his flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, aground at Topsail Inlet (also know as Beaufort Inlet) near Beaufort. Artifacts from the excavated wreck of the ship are the main attraction at the museum. Both Deb and I enjoyed touring the museum. After returning to the condo we walked out to the beach and enjoyed a lovely sunset. I finished the day watching the raising of the Stanley Cup Banner for my beloved Blackhawks (Chicago lost the game 3-2).
